Established under Section 911 of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, the committee is tasked with advising on regulatory priorities, securities products, trading strategies, fee structures, and investor protection initiatives. The SEC stated that the committee's purpose is to provide guidance to protect investor interests and promote the integrity of the securities markets. The committee is authorized to submit findings and recommendations to the SEC for review, with its members comprising experienced representatives from both retail and institutional investors. SEC Acting Chair Mark Uyeda emphasized the importance of the investor perspective, stating, "We look forward to receiving candidates willing to serve on the Investor Advisory Committee.
